Comparing PS4 with PS5

The PlayStation 5 is finally here, and while it may not be the fastest console in the world, it is a significant upgrade over the PlayStation 4. With a whole new structure, superior resolution support and faster storage thanks to the SSD, the PS5 is almost better than the PS4 in almost every way. Sony is able to achieve such a high performance due to the 36 CU PS5 and higher clock speed. The PS5 cores operate at a variable frequency of 2.23 GHz.

The general idea is that higher clock speeds are better than higher CUs, because slower extra units do not have enough computing power to calculate their weight. By allowing variable frequency, the PS5 GPU can achieve much higher clock speeds than expected, provided the higher frequency is supported by the system power budget. In short, the PS5’s graphics capabilities are far more impressive than the PS4.

The Difference Between PS4 and PS5 in Resolution

The PS5’s graphical enhancement for gaming is probably a previously unprecedented resolution. For output, the PS5 supports 4K at 120Hz and 8K, both with variable refresh rates set by HDMI 2.1. In contrast, the PS4 can produce 1080p resolution, which often reduces image resolution based on power consumption. The new standard supports higher resolution and higher frame rates, but this high limit will not matter for years, or even decades. More importantly, HDMI 2.1 supports variable refresh rates, which prevent the screen from getting stuck. 8K displays are likely to become more common late in the PS5 life cycle. Currently, the focus is on 4K. The big deal for the PS5 is support for 120Hz displays, as there are now plenty of TVs and monitors that support refresh rates of 4K and above. Assuming the GPU has the power to press 60 frames per second or higher, you should be able to enjoy a high-speed TV with the PS5.

PS4 and PS5 Storage Space

If you still have the original PS4, the storage space will be a bit more, the base PS4 model has 500 GB of storage and the PS5 version with 825 GB. Those who have the next PS4 or Pro model will actually face a 175GB reduction in capacity, and this difference between the PS4 and the PS5 has not been very pleasing to gamers.

Performance is the main difference between ps4 and ps5. The PS5 includes a custom SSD with 5.5 GB / s unread bandwidth. Current PS4 users have already benefited from efficient decompression, as recent games such as Marvel’s Spider-Man and Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order are presented based on what the player actively sees and download additional data from the game world. Up to this point, developers have had to put at least some assets in the gaming world, because the PS4 hard drive is not fast enough to provide the necessary data in a timely manner.

PS4 and PS5 Processor Comparison:

Naturally, the PS5 represents a next-generation leap in technology, so the processing unit and GPU are far more advanced than those used in the PS4 models. All three consoles – PS4, PS4 Pro and PS5 – use AMD custom processors. Both the PS4 and PS4 Pro use an AMD Jaguar x86-64 octa-core chipset, while the PlayStation 5 uses a much newer processor based on AMD’s Zen 2 octa-core.
