With the release of the iPhone SE 2020, Apple has revived the market for small and compact smartphones. The phone performed well in terms of sales, and as a result, the Cupertino giant decided to launch the iPhone 12 Mini along with the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro. However, recent reports suggest that Apple may stop production of this small model of the iPhone 12 soon due to what is said to be a lack of acceptance from buyers.
According to Reuters, the results of research by the famous analytical company Counterpoint Research show that the demand for Apple’s flagship and the compact phone has been low in many global markets. In recent times, buyers have been increasingly looking for phones with larger screens to make it easier to watch movies and multimedia content, the report said. As a result, the demand for phones like the iPhone 12 Mini, the most important factor of which is its small size, has been very low.
According to previous reports, sales of the iPhone 12 Mini in the first half of January accounted for only 5% of total sales of Apple’s new handsets, which could be very disappointing for the company.
Therefore, analysts such as William Young of JP Morgan supply chain believe that due to very low demand for the iPhone 12 Mini and its poor sales even in the US domestic market, Apple may reduce the production of this model in the second quarter of 2021.
According to Young, as the production of the iPhone 12 Mini declines, Apple will focus more on the best-selling models, such as the iPhone 12 Pro, 12 Pro Max, and even the iPhone 11, which has been one of Apple’s best-selling phones in recent years.
Besides, Yang predicts that the American company plans to launch four new iPhone models this year. He also added that Apple is working on the third generation of iPhone SE phones, which is scheduled to be released in 2022. Of course, despite the declining demand for small handsets, the iPhone SE 3 looks a bit odd, and it remains to be seen what Apple plans to do with its marketing.
